Meet Shawna Jorgenson
Ask Shawna Jorgenson what a typical day looks like and she'll probably laugh.
"That's one of my favorite parts of the job — no two days are the same."
As Community Manager at Huntington Village and Jackson Heights, Shawna assists residents, conducts showings, coordinates with vendors, plans and hosts events, and steps in wherever she is needed.
The list, she'll tell you, goes on.
Shawna did not set out to work in property management. Nine years ago she was in the insurance industry, and while she loved working with people, the policies themselves were another story. A tenant services manager posting caught her eye, and she never looked back.
Shawna did not set out to work in property management. Nine years ago she was selling insurance, and while she loved working with people, the policies were a different matter. A role took her to Tennessee, where she spent a year before a former boss recruited her back to Sioux Falls to work in student housing.
"That job was SO fun," she said. The hour commute eventually wore her down, but not before she had worked her way up to Regional Property Manager overseeing communities across Wisconsin, Iowa, and South Dakota.
When the Huntington Village opportunity came up, it felt like the right chance to get back to what she loved most. "The residents," she said. "Some people may think I'm crazy, but my residents at Huntington Village truly make this the best place to be."
Outside of work, Shawna and her husband travel as much as they can. The mountains are her happy place, and concerts are almost always part of the plan.
She has seen Coheed and Cambria 13 times across 10 states (if you know, you know). Two of those shows were on the Coheed cruise (SS Neverender), which she notes may technically count as a stop in Mexico.
This summer, Shawna and her husband are breaking in a brand new camper, making two trips to Colorado, and seeing Noah Kahan live. Turns out she is in good company as more than a few people on the Collective team have Noah Kahan concert(s) on their calendar.
At home, life revolves around four dogs who are very much part of the family. They have their own bedroom, complete with a full-size bed, a TV, and more treats and toys than most would expect.
Huntington Village and Jackson Heights are lucky to have her. Her residents probably already know that. And if you ask Shawna, she'll tell you the feeling is mutual.
Shawna’s Fun Fact
Dogs tell time by scent. Their owners' smell fades throughout the day, and they have learned to get excited when it drops to the level that usually means someone is coming home.
