Collective Competes in The Corporate Cup
Teams from dozens of businesses from Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo, as well as team members from Collective and our sister company, Great States Construction, descended upon Nemzek Fieldhouse at MSUM to compete in the sold-out Corporate Cup, organized by the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo Chamber of Commerce.
The teams competed in events like tug of war, human battleships, kickball, human foosball, an inflatable obstacle course, SNAG Golf, and flag football.
The Collective-Great States team came out strong, with a dominating performance in the inflatable obstacle course, followed by a riveting battle on the tug of war field that saw the team come out on top once again.
Other events, like kickball and foosball, did not go in the team’s favor and were good reminders that winning isn’t everything. The main purpose of the event, held every year, is an opportunity for companies to network and share camaraderie in a non-traditional setting.
While the focus was on team building, there were several individual competitors who really made an impact for the team.
Lisa Kinker, a property accountant at Collective, scored the game winning shot in giant pong, pushing the team and surrounding spectators to erupt with cheers. Following a short hot streak for both sides, the game had drawn to a stalemate with both sides evenly matched with the number of cans remaining. Eventually, the game winning swish from Kinker gave the team a win.
Brennan Witt, a regional manager, showed that he is a force to be reckoned with in rock, paper, scissors, hop. Not only did he perfect his hopping technique, but his strategy for the Rock Paper Scissors battles left his opponents genuinely dazed. His dominating performance gave the team an early lead in the event, which was notably held in front of about 500 spectators.
The final event was the team challenge, which found the team barefoot and sprinting across the football field to find their shoes, put them back on, and sprint back to the sidelines. Everyone on the team finished in under a minute with both shoes on.
Even the day after, while understandably a little sore, our competitive coworkers are still riding the wave of good times. Collective property accountant Lisa Kinker said, “I keep replaying that moment in my head. It was so cool when everyone started cheering when it went in.”
While the team ultimately did not come out on top overall, it was a memorable day filled with friendships, sportsmanship, and recognition of the great companies that make up our local area.
A big thank you to the volunteers, The Chamber, and sponsors who make events like this possible.
